De Pijp Hotels Amsterdam

Guide to De Pijp Hotels Amsterdam

Probably the most fashionable area in Amsterdam at the moment, De Pijp is undergoing rapid gentrification as a young, hip crowd invades the area. The reputation is not undeserved. De Pijp has something for everyone and is a great spot for tourists even if it is not the Amsterdam that many would expect. Spend an afternoon browsing at Albert Cuypstraat, visit the Heineken Experience, or take a picnic out to the Amstel. De Pijp is a great location for a longer visit to Amsterdam.
Getting there and around
Many trams make it out to De Pijp. For purposes of getting around the bike might seem the most tempting, but some of the busier streets are probably best avoided if you are not an experienced cyclist. Most of De Pijp is within walking distance of Museumplein, Vondelpark, and even Leidseplein.
Shopping
There's only one name you need to know for shopping in De Pijp: Albert Cuypstraat. If it's not available at a store or stall on this street, you've either missed it or it doesn't exist. The long open air market is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday. The whole city seems to wind up here sooner or later giving the place a busy and electric atmosphere. There are bargains galore, but be prepared to rummage.
Hotels
Much of the accommodation in De Pijp consists of smaller B&Bs and guesthouses. The area is well suited to those visiting on business in the RAI area wanting to stay somewhere closer to the city centre. It's an easy going area and everything you could need is close by.
Dining out
Also on Albert Cuypstraat is the acclaimed restaurant Bazar. More experience than meal, the restaurant serves up cuisine from the greater Middle East. It's an ideal outing for groups. Diners searching for Mediterranean or Italian food will do well in this area. There are enough choices that you can afford to be picky. De Pijp is a cosmopolitan area and the citizens of the world walking its streets have all brought their home cuisines with them. This is a good place to be adventurous; whether it's Brazilian or Kurdish you're after, someone in this area has you covered.
Places of interest in the area
The rather over stimulating Heineken Experience is a must for beer enthusiasts. De Pijp is rich in small art galleries and show rooms. Pick up a local event guide for the latest news on what's on. Whether it's modern Tibetan fusion or beat poetry reinterpreted on canvas you're after, someone in De Pijp is exhibiting a collection you will like!
Night Life
A great area for pub crawlers, De Pijp has many lively bars and live music in no short supply. The area around Marie Heinekenplein picks up a lot after dark.
