Central Amsterdam (Centrum)
Central Amsterdam is the area stretching from Central Station in the north east and inside the Singel Canal which circumnavigates the city center. Within this area is the famed Damrak Shopping area and the Red Light District. Similar to the West End of London, this central (centrum) area is geared towards tourism and bustles 24 hours a day. Schiphol Airport
Schiphol is Amsterdam's international airport and is a major European travel hub. Located south west of Amsterdam, Schiphol has fantastic transport links including a superb train shuttle into Central Station in the city center. There are several hotels at Schiphol Airport, however the travel time into Amsterdam is so quick that its possible to stay in the city. Schiphol Airport
Red Light District
Amsterdams Red Light District (RLD) is situated in the center of the city just to the south east of Damrak. Now more of a tourist attraction, the Red Light District is an essential visit for all tourists and is safe until around midnight. There are a few hotels inside the Red Light District, mainly budget, but there are many within a 10 minute walk away. Red Light District
Museum District
The Museumplein area is where some of the city's most famous museums are concentrated, along with the national concert hall. Aside from the museums there is a long, wide, open area frequented by picnickers, readers, skaters, and musicians. It's a nice atmosphere to soak up in the summer and a romantic walk in the winter. Oost District
On the face of things the Oost is a quiet residential area. However, there are many overlooked delights in this area and the architecture- around Plantage in particular- is of a very different style to most of the city. Start your eastern expedition with a visit to the zoo or the Botanical Gardens, cruise by Plantage Middenlaan for a coffee, then head north to Nemo or the Museum of Architecture. Oost District
Centrum District
Most visitors to Amsterdam first arrive at Central Station and are immediately swept into the city along the Damrak to Dam Square. Just like any modern city centre, the Damrak area boasts historical buildings, world class restaurants, and more shopping and leisure activities than you could go through in a month. Though it has been somewhat over run by souvenir shops and fast food joints, the Dam area still merits attention. Centrum District

Dam Square
Dam Square is the true center of Amsterdam. From this huge open area you can stroll to the Red Light District or walk along Kalverstraat with its hundreds of shops and restaurants. In Dam Square you can see the Magna Plaza Shopping Centre, De Bijenkorf Department Store, Madame Tussauds or the 17th century Royal Palace. Dam Square
RAI
RAI is located in the business district of Amsterdam with a huge exhibition and conference facility where most of Amsterdam's international trade fairs, exhibitions, and congresses are staged. There are hotels at RAI, however it is only a 10 minute train ride from the center where there are many more options to choose from. RAI
De Pijp
Located just outside the central area of Amsterdam and close to the Museum District, De Pijp is an up and coming trendy area undergoing regeneration. Spend an afternoon browsing at Albert Cuypstraat, visit the Heineken Experience, or take a picnic out to the Amstel. Much of the accommodation in De Pijp consists of smaller B&Bs and guesthouses. Leidseplein
Loved and hated in equal measure, this area of town draws revellers Dutch and foreign almost every night of the week. Aside from top quality music venues attracting world famous performers at reasonable prices, the area has an excess of bars, cafes, restaurants, clubs, and dance floors. Joordan
The Jewel in Amsterdam's crown is the breath taking Joordan. One of the oldest parts of the city, the Joordan is an oasis of calm in bustling city centre Amsterdam. Immediately to the west of the centre, this is the Amsterdam that Amsterdammers want you to see! Rembrandt Square
Rembrandtplein abounds with bars, cafes, and restaurants. Indeed, there is not much to do in this area apart from kick back and relax, or step up and party. The atmosphere varies greatly depending on the time of day and year. The draw back to Rembrandtplein is that you largely wind up rubbing elbows only with other tourists. Rembrandt Square
