The museum is famous across the world for its unequivocal ability to transfer its visitors right into the heart of the featured tropical locales by splendid displays that sound, look, feel, taste, and even smell as if one was experiencing the site firsthand

The aim of the museum originally was to display the overseas possessions of Dutch. After Indonesia became independent in year 1945, the museum's scope changed from just Netherland's colonial possession to other undeveloped colonial states in Asia, South Africa and South America. Early 1970s saw the addition a new wing for children, which is now known as Tropenmuseum Junior. In a nutshell, this museum is a perfect place to visit for both adults and children.
